Kurt Steckel VP of Technology
From an early age, Kurt’s fascination with numbers was rivaled only by an entrepreneurial spirit. He actually sold his first business while still in high school. In college, he found his niche in college statistics. While studying for an MBA in international business at Thunderbird School of Global Management, he created elaborate Excel models for his entrepreneurship classes, and by then he was hooked on business analytics. Since then, he has applied his understanding of data to help a 100s of companies work smarter.
Prior to joining Propeller, Kurt served as a consultant for numerous Fortune 500 and public companies, including The World Bank/International Finance Corporation; Merck & Co; Verizon Wireless; and American Electric Power. He has consulted on the use of Cognos, Business Objects, Hyperion, and Microsoft BI toolsets in conjunction with leading databases such as Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, and MySQL.
In 2006, Kurt founded Bison Analytics, since acquired by Propeller Industries, with the goal of providing enterprise-level business intelligence to emerging businesses. Focusing on the QuickBooks database, his team developed the Bison System. The system provides a data visualization environment that helps successful executive teams work smarter.
Kurt lives in rural Central Pennsylvania with his wife Amy and their four young children. He loves the outdoors, though from time to time he has to fend off the odd critter that wanders in from the surrounding woods.
